༄ Bali Pass connects Harkidoon and the Tons river valley to the holy Yamunotri shrine, source of the Ganga. Our trekking route traverses remote villages, pristine bugyals (bugyal is Garhwali for “alpine meadow”) and sacred lakes. Behind the main thrust of the Himalaya we have up front views to ice clad peaks soaring skyward, notably Bandarpunch, Kalanag and Swargarohini. A well rounded exploratory, off the beaten track.
Zach says:
“The villages in this region all have some link to Dhuryodana and the Kuravas. When I first trekked here local temples were dedicated to Dhuryodana. Now with increased information and the more mainstream Doordarshan version of Mahabharata, these are now temples to Someshwar, an avatar of Lord Shiva.”
