Backcountry skiing and splitboarding Kishtwar
The goal of this expedition is to explore the region while making first skiing and splitboarding descents deep in the western Himalayas. This is a jeep-based expedition. The Chandra Bhaga gorge, exploring first ski and snowboard descents at the 4000-5000 meter elevation. A calling to freeriding some of the most aesthetic peaks in the Western Himalayas. Not interested in hiking for lines? Join us in Gulmarg only.
The village of Kishtwar is in the bottom left corner of this image (NH1B). Notice this massive world of the Kishtwar Himalayas. The yellow road in the image runs for 118 miles, and every curve in it has 14,000 foot peaks above it with aesthetic lines to descend. These are our focus on this jeep-based exploratory of Kishtwar.
Mr. Ghulam Mohammed Baba Rishi. GM Baba keeps a tradition alive that dates back 700 years, and many argue is much older. Mr. Baba embodies the spirit of Kashmiriyat, the Kashmiri way of life. Kashmiriyat is the ethno-national and social consciousness and cultural values of the Kashmiri people. The term Kashmiriyat has come to signify a centuries-old indigenous secularism of Kashmir. Of peace and of warmth and kindness. When we last visited Mr. Baba he offered us Kashmiri Kawah, a tea made from saffron, and gave us walnuts from the pockets of his Shalwar Kamiz while we spoke about his life and community.
