Lakes on the Roof of the World Trek | Ladakh

Majestic Lake Tsomoriri, home to the Tibetan Black-Necked Crane, and ringed by (6000m) 20,000 foot peaks.

A spectacular trek in the Trans-Himalaya of Ladakh with visits to Lakes Tso Kar and Tsomoriri.  This is a great trek for first time trekkers.  We begin with acclimatizing for a couple of days in the culturally rich Indus valley, then to trek into the Rupshu range and make a traverse of three 5000 meter passes as we visit with the fascinating Changpa nomads and their yaks, see the brackish lakes of eastern Ladakh, and all with great food and sound guidance. A well-rounded Himalayan experience complete with indigenous culture, trekking and all the amenities to keep you at your best. Join us.

Yaks grazing at a summer grazing settlement (doksa). We will camp next to the the Changpa nomads that live here, and experience their 1800 year old way of life.

Typical trekking terrain on this route. Well established trails with sweeping vista views and a chance to see Kiang (Tibetan wild ass), Chiru (Tibetan antelope), Tibetan wolves, and Lammergeier.

Leadership. Heather Chrystie will be leading this trip working alongside the Himalaya Alpine Guides team of top notch local guides and staff.

Our typical camp setup. Roomy Mountain Hardwear tents (each person has their own, red dining tent, green toilet tent in the distance, white kitchen tent, and blue horseman tent.

Cost Effective. Full Service. We will trek with horse support.rupshu

Spectacular Tso Kar lake. This lake was the source for salt for locals for centuries from as far as 200 miles away.

Trust.  Trekking at 5000 meters is no place to be short on resources. We make the proper advance preparations to ensure that our team will be properly cared for, from airport to summit to airport.

Next to Tso Kar lake, a horse with her new born foal, an afternoon shower passing through in the distance. This region is extremely photogenic, be sure to bring a good camera to capture how the light moves across the landscape, and to visit with locals and the wildlife that call this plateau home.

Space! A lone trekker approaching Tso Kar lake on one of our previous treks. Warm sunny days of trekking with great food in camps, and time to relax in the afternoons. Most trekking days are 3 to 4 hours with a picnic lunch mid route.

The horse team with all trek gear walking down in the meadow to camp while we explore a side ridge. Horses carry all of your luggage and the camp supplies. You carry a light daypack with water bottle, sunscreen, extra layer, rain jacket, and camera. We bring the pack lunch and serve it to you mid day.

Jullay and Namaskar.
